Though parents of newborns know that "sleeping like a baby" might be a bit of a misnomer, there is something beautiful about how babies sleep. I love to watch my son sleep. Worry leaves his face, and he is totally at peace. He sleeps when he is tired (most of the time) and wakes when he is done sleeping. When he wakes up, he smiles and plays. Sleep restores him, and when he gives into it, he finds peace.
Sleep can change our perspective, heal our bodies, and help us re-create. Our physical selves are linked to our spiritual and emotional selves.
Sleep is essential. We all need to learn to give in to rest when we need it. I love the gift of Psalm 127:2
It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives to his beloved sleep.
I hope you have a chance to partake of the gift of sleep this weekend.
